A Renovation to a Penthouse Apartment in Surfers Paradise……
Ah, a project that truly doesn’t come around too often—an exceptional apartment sprawling across three levels with a rooftop entertainment area, paired with a client who actually appreciates the architect's value. What a rare treat! Naturally, these factors set the stage for a successful outcome. The brief? A little renovation of the top floor and some tweaks to the sleeping level below. Of course, this was complicated by the body corporate’s charming decision to update balustrades and balcony floor finishes at the same time. But with a sprinkle of patience — who needs a quick turnaround, anyway? — we managed to pull it off.
We opted for a simple palette of timber, natural stone, aluminum detailing, and neutral wall colours, creating a warm, modern, and relaxed interior. The detailing on the existing internal stairs and balustrade was particularly satisfying, as we waved goodbye to the old Mediterranean style in favour of a slick, modern feel. The new and old blended so seamlessly, it was almost as if they were best friends. Adding a guest room with an attached kitchenette and living space? Just perfect for the owners’ entertaining lifestyle. Who wouldn’t want to impress guests in such style?
